Conditioning of Biomass

Biomass is organic matter that is usually sourced from waste streams in a number of industries, including:

  • Forestry – biomass includes bark, branches, chips, sawdust etc.
  • Agricultural – biomass includes animal manure, plant stem etc.

(For biomass sourced from pulp & water or wastewater treatment plants, please consult this hyperlink.)

In its raw form, biomass is poorly suited as a source of energy for a thermal process. This is generally due to the typically high moisture content and particle size and, in some cases, high ash content.

Lakson offers biomass conditioning solutions that can grind and dry raw biomass into a dry/fine powder having excellent combustion characteristics.
